A contemporary response to the traditional Confucian school.

Yongin, South Korea

This mix of corporate headquarters, research laboratories, training and dormitory facilities in one complex is a common program for large Korean corporations. From the programmatic emphasis on education, Scott deployed a design strategy inspired by the traditional Korean Confucian school. What is shared is between the two is a hillside site with a commanding views, as well as the strong expression of portal and courtyard . The disparate program is drawn together to become a single architectural element that engages the topography in order minimize the impact upon the hillside and to create a defined courtyard.
