noroof is a design/research collaboration of emerging designers and senior architects led by two award-winning architect-educators, Margarita McGrath and Scott Oliver.

noroof is a member of the Green Building Council, and both partners are LEED APs.

noroof has received national and international recognition for focusing its energies on the challenges of designing the super small versus the super tall.

noroof‘s first project, the slot house, won an AIA National Housing Award (2008 “a refined and rigorous little house”), AIA National Small Practice Practitioner’s Award (2008).

• Subsequent work has received AIA New York Chapter design awards (2007, 2009), AIA Brooklyn + Queens (2016), Residential Architecture (2011), Building Brooklyn (2007, 2018), and has been featured in Dwell magazine, Wallpaper* magazine, New York Times, HGTV, and numerous design anthologies.

Before founding noroof, Margarita McGrath and Scott Oliver practiced, taught, lived and traveled extensively in Asia, Europe, and across the United States.

Margarita previously worked as a designer and project architect for detail-oriented architecture practices in New Haven, Vienna, and Seoul on a range of cultural, educational and retail projects. She is currently the Chair of the Undergraduate Architecture Program and an Associate Professor at Virginia Tech.

Scott Oliver, AIA  | NCARB | LEED AP

Scott has worked in large architecture firms doing a range of projects including one of the first LEED platinum-certified high-performance building for the City of New York’s building authority, a university student center, and several regional multi-family housing developments.
